About this tool
The California Style Manual (4th ed.) is the citation style the California Reporter of Decisions uses in the Official Reports. California Rules of Court, rule 1.200 permits either CSM or Bluebook style in court filings, applied consistently; this converter rewrites a citation into CSM so it matches the way California opinions are published.
Paste one citation and the tool detects its format, looks the case up with a verified CourtListener lookup to recover the official reporter volume and page, and renders a California Style Manual citation with the case name in italics — ready to copy into Word. Recovering the official reporter volume and page is what a California trial-court memorandum needs under California Rules of Court, rule 3.1113(c).
When it cannot confidently match the case, the converter refuses and tells you why instead of guessing — a wrong volume or reporter abbreviation in a filing is worse than no answer at all. For a California Court of Appeal decision it also notes that publication status was not verified, so you check before filing (rule 8.1115).
This is a formatting aid, not a research service: it does not tell you whether a case is still good law, and it converts into CSM only — it does not produce Bluebook or ALWD output. Always verify each citation against the official reporter before you file.
